Meet Wrap-Up:  Heartbreaking loss last night.  I was so hoping the kids could pull out the win and have a chance for an undefeated season.  They did their best and in the end that is all I ever ask of them.  With one more meet to go, I think we can pull out a 4-1 season if we finish strong.

As far as record breakers we only had one last night, Kirby Guerrero broke the 11-12 50 Fly record set in 2004 by Mimi Racine.  Also, last week we missed that Madeline Murphy broke the 7-8 25 Free record set in 2000 by Lili Watts.  Both Mimi and Lili were long time Hammerhead swimmers and both coached the team.  Kirby and Madeline may be our coaches of the future. 

Junior Meet and Practice Tonight:  We’ll be having a Junior Hammerhead meet tonight at 6:30 pm and practice right after at 7:00 pm.  With so many kids at VBS at Chamblee Methodist this morning, we’ll have extra donuts for tonight’s practice. 

ASA Championships:  Thanks to Kelly Adam for finding a link for pre-paid discounted parking pass for the ASA meet.  Go here if you plan on going and want to buy a discounted parking pass in advance.  We still need swimmers to RSVP, no or yes and pay their $17 fee.

ASA Fall League:  ASA is starting a Fall league that is geared toward 8-14 year olds, even though there will be an 8 & Under and 13 & Over age groups.  The meets will be for 5 Saturday's at local area pools starting on August 16. If your swimmer would be interested in participating in a Fall season, please RSVP to the 2014 Fall Swim League "meet" I've set up on the portal.  If we get enough interested we'll work out the details and enter our own team or partner up with another neighborhood or two.

Parent Assistance Needed:  There are few items we need help from parents to address.  First, there were entirely too many kids not in the bullpen area like they should be. This has been a big problem all season.  I can understand if kids leave the bullpen to go sit with Mom/Dad/Grandma/Grandpa, but there were times I saw more of our swimmer on the playground and tether ball court than on the pool deck.  Furthermore, I did not see any adult supervision whatsoever.  This is not acceptable and I need parents to let their children know this cannot be tolerated.  Unfortunately, I’d like to say that they were all young 8 & Under swimmers but this is not entirely the case.  There are older swimmers, especially in the 11-14 age group that have an attitude that rules don’t apply to them that is setting a poor example for the young kids who are looking up to them. 

Another thing I would like to address is that it is perfectly acceptable for a winning home team to jump into their own pool when being announced the winners of the meet.  That is a perfect acceptable form of celebration, especially for a team winning their first meet of the season.  It is not acceptable for our kids to tell them they are not showing good sportsmanship or have a lack class by not waiting for our team to leave before jumping in.  It is extreme poor sportsmanship and lack of class for our swimmers to jump into another team’s pool after a meet, win or lose, as did some of our 11-14 age group swimmers decided to do.  They’ve been on swim team for many years and know perfectly well that this is not acceptable but yet they did it anyway. 

I’m sorry if it sounds I’m getting a little fed up with some of our swimmers in this age group, but the fact of the matter is, I am.
