ASA Divisionals Wrap-up:  What a day.  There was some good and some not so good to the day

The good:  The kids were awesome.  We had quite a few personal bests, and I believe some team records broken.  (I’m still waiting on getting the results files from the league imported to our computer to confirm).  All the parents who stepped up to help out were life savers.  Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!  Also thanks to Shelly Guerrero and Kelly Adam for putting together goodies bags with healthy fruits, snacks, and waters.  Best of all, as a team we finished 7th overall for our session.  To put in historical perspective our last 5 years we’ve finished: 14th, 19th, 15th, 16th, and 20th.  I’m so proud of these Hammerheads.

The not so good:  I clearly did not anticipate the management of 60 kids on the pool deck without parental supervision.  It was way more than Mary, Kristen, Patrick, Jordan and I could handle.  So again thanks to all the parents that helped out getting kids to their events.  I’ll know better next time to have volunteers assigned ahead of time.  Next time we’re on the pool deck I’m going to have responsible adults down on the deck because the food and trash left all over the floor by our crew was repulsive.  Again, I’m getting unconfirmed reports that my favorite 12-15 year olds are largely to thank for that.  However, I do want to give a big shout out to William Gao for his help in leading a clean-up party so it didn’t fall completely on Mary, me, and other adults to clean up. 

I’ll send out another detailed report on ASA Championships late Sunday night once all the results for all sessions are posted. I’m expecting about a half dozen or so of our swimmers to be back for Finals on Sunday.  The magnitude of making it back to Finals cannot be overstated.  There are thousands of swimmers in the ASA swim league and these are the best of the best.

Swim Team Banquet: 

It's Banquet Time!!! We can't wait to celebrate our amazing season and our incredible swimmers!  We will reveal our new big trophy for ASA League Runner-Up, hand out awards for our swimmers, and any ribbons earned at Championships.  Way to go Hammerheads!

It is now time to party! The banquet is Tuesday, July 1 at 6:30. The pool has been reserved for the swim team for the night. We will have a potluck dinner, give out awards, and then have fun in the pool!
