Practice Update - Important
Thanks for all your patience yesterday with the first day of practice with everyone in the pool!
Due to scheduling conflicts with our coaching staff and end of school activities (we have 4 coaches who are graduating seniors this year) we will NOT have guppy practice today.
We have a LOT of young swimmers, and we are trying to figure out the best way to manage the safety and schedule with the number of swimmers we have. If your child is uncomfortable getting in the water/is upset or crying we will ask that the parent remove the child from the pool until they are ready to get in on their own. Our coaches can not spend their time coaxing children into the pool and need to be able to ensure that the swimmers in the water are safe.
As a reminder from our site:
All swimmers must know how to swim. They should also be able to tread water and feel confident in water without the need to hold on to something or someone. While all coaches are life guard certified, they are not working as lifeguards during training sessions. They are instructing many children at once and therefore cannot provide 100% focus to every child at every moment. This includes our junior/guppy swimmers, who can not complete a full lap unassisted in under a minute on their own, but they still need to be able to be comfortable in the pool without a floaty or holding on to another person.
If we feel that your swimmer would benefit from swim lessons we will have that conversation with you and it may mean that this is not the right time for them to be on the. team.
Please bear with us as we navigate this unusually high number of 8 and under swimmers this season. We are excited for a fun season but also have to make sure that everyone stays safe.
We may modify practice times again as we move forward. We only have 7 afternoon practices until the morning practices begin on the 29th, so we will get through these!
Thanks,
Andrea
